1.Eligibility & age

To use the Service, you must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if that is higher). By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement.

BJJ academies commonly include children and teens. If you are a minor above the minimum age, you may use the Service only with the knowledge and consent of, and under the supervision of, a parent or legal guardian and your academy. A parent or guardian who allows a minor to use the Service agrees to these Terms on the minor's behalf and is responsible for the minor's use of it.

The Service is not directed to and may not be used by children under 13. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle age and minors.

2.Your account & responsibilities

To use most features you need an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate information (including a real name and a genuine BJJ belt, weight class, and gender) and keep it up to date.
• Keep your login credentials confidential and not share your account.
• Be responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
• Notify us promptly at support@kingofthemat.app if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

You may sign in with email and password, or — on the iOS app — with "Sign in with Apple" or "Sign in with Google". You are responsible for maintaining access to whichever method you choose. One person may not maintain multiple accounts to manipulate rankings (see §4).

3.Academies, invite codes & admins

You join a gym ("academy") using an invite code. When you join an academy:

• Your profile and ranking-related information become visible to other members and to academy administrators, as described in the Privacy Policy.
• Academy administrators moderate the community — they can manage the roster, and moderate or remove posts, comments, and chat within their academy. They may remove you from the academy.
• You are responsible for keeping invite codes within your intended community. Do not post them publicly if your academy does not intend for the general public to join.

Academies and their administrators are independent of us. We are not responsible for the conduct, decisions, or moderation choices of any academy or administrator, and disputes about membership or moderation should be raised with your academy.

4.Acceptable use & fair play

King of the Mat only works if people play fair. You agree not to:

• Log fake, falsified, or fraudulent match results, or otherwise manipulate matches, challenges, ratings, rankings, crowns, badges, streaks, or seasons. The integrity of the ranking depends on honest results.
• Create multiple or fake accounts, collude, or use bots or automated means to influence rankings.
• Harass, bully, threaten, defame, or abuse other members, or post hateful, discriminatory, or sexually explicit content.
• Post content that is illegal, infringes someone else's rights, or violates someone's privacy.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
• Upload malware, attempt to breach security, scrape the Service, probe or test its vulnerabilities, or interfere with its normal operation.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by law.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.

Academy administrators and we may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules (see §14). We may correct or reset ratings and rankings affected by manipulation.

5.Your content (feed & chat)

You own your content. The posts, comments, reactions, chat messages, avatar photo, and other material you submit ("Your Content") remain yours. We do not claim ownership of it.

License to operate the Service. To run the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt (for example, to resize an image), and distribute Your Content, solely for the purpose of operating, providing, and improving the Service — for instance, showing your post in your academy's feed. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for: (a) content others have shared or that remains in another member's history or an academy's records, and (b) residual copies in backups that cycle out over time.

You are responsible for Your Content. You represent that you have the rights to post it and that it does not violate these Terms or anyone else's rights. We do not endorse and are not responsible for Your Content or any content posted by other members, and we are under no obligation to monitor it — although we and academy admins may review, moderate, or remove content at our discretion.

6.Rankings are for fun — not an official record

King of the Mat uses a Glicko-2-based rating system, crowns, badges, streaks, seasons, and occasional title tournaments to create a fun, competitive community experience within your academy.

We may adjust, recalculate, reset (for example, between seasons), or change how ratings and rankings work at any time, and we do not guarantee that any rating, rank, crown, or badge will be preserved.

7.Pro subscriptions & billing

Some features may require a paid "Pro" subscription. The following terms apply to Pro.

7.1 Billing & auto-renewal

• Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. Unless cancelled, it renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and the payment method on file is charged the then-current price for the next period.
• On the web, payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your card details directly; we do not store your card number. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's own terms.
• Prices, features, and billing periods are shown at the point of purchase and may change; we will give notice of price changes as required by law, and changes apply to future billing periods.

7.2 Cancellation & refunds

• You can cancel at any time. When you cancel, you keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period, and it does not renew after that. We generally do not provide refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

8.Our intellectual property

The Service itself — including the King of the Mat name, logo, software, design, and the ranking system — is owned by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. You may not use our name or branding without our prior written permission.

9.Third-party services & app stores

The Service relies on third-party providers (including Supabase, Stripe, Expo, Sentry, and Apple/Google for sign-in), and may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for third-party services or content, and your use of them is governed by their terms.

Apple App Store. If you use the iOS app, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You also agree to comply with the Apple Media Services / App Store Terms of Service, and you represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist-supporting", and are not on any U.S. Government restricted-parties list.

10.Assumption of risk & not medical advice

You are solely responsible for your own health, safety, and decisions about whether and how to train. You should train only under proper supervision at a qualified academy, roll within your ability, and consult a physician before beginning or continuing any physical activity. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with practicing BJJ and with acting on anything shown in the app (including challenges). To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible or liable for any injury, harm, or loss arising from your physical training or from your use of the Service to arrange, track, or motivate that training.

Nothing in the Service is medical, health, fitness, or professional advice. Rankings, challenges, and streaks are motivational features, not recommendations that you train in any particular way or when injured or unwell.

11.Disclaimer of warranties

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.

12.Limitation of liability

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where such limitation is prohibited).

13.Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] and its officers, employees, and contractors from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

14.Suspension & termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and can delete your account in the app at Settings → Account → Delete account (see the Privacy Policy).

We may suspend or terminate your access, or remove content, at any time if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, or to protect the Service or other members — where practical, with notice. On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including §5 license terms, §6, §8, and §§10–17) will survive.

15.Changes to the Service & Terms

We are actively developing King of the Mat, so we may add, change, or remove features (including seasons, tournaments, badges, and Pro features) at any time. We may also update these Terms. When we make material changes to the Terms, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

16.Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in [JURISDICTION] for any dispute that is not subject to another agreed dispute-resolution process, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court.

17.General terms

• Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
• Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• No agency. These Terms do not create any partnership, employment, or agency relationship between you and us.
